When the stars align just right, sometimes a partnership is just meant to be. That is exactly what happened in the case of Jessie and Ian’s wedding.
We don’t typically do house calls for initial client meetings. We have a sweet little space in the bakery dedicated to creating wedding cake magic, complete with faux wedding cake models for inspiration. But when a fabulous planner, like Lisa Lippe-Kelley of Details Defined, asks for a house call and says, “It’ll be worth it,” you just take her word for it. Lisa is amazing – she always looks out for her clients, finding them the best vendors, and always treats her fellow vendors with respect.
Lisa connected me with Jessie’s mom (also named Lisa). We immediately bonded and I was thrilled to work with this family. She is such a kind soul and it comes as no surprise that her husband and daughter, Stephen and Jessie, and (now) son-in-law, Ian, are equally terrific. I met with the whole family in their beautiful La Jolla home, which would serve as the venue for the wedding and WOW their guests. I tell you what… I was wowed, myself, sitting in their living room, watching the paragliders fly over Torrey Pines.
Talk about timing! I was only slightly embarrassed when, during the meeting, my face showed up on the TV in the client’s home on an episode of Ridiculous Cakes. It was the perfect example of being in the right place at the right time. Food Network, I didn’t know whether to thank you or hide in a corner! I supposed it offered me some “cred.”
Jessie and Ian’s wedding was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. The family’s home was completely transformed with over-the-top rentals from Hire Elegance and incredible floral elements from Blush Botanicals. You would never believe part of the wedding took place on their basketball court! Of course, an extraordinary wedding deserved extraordinary sweets. For Jessie and Ian, we created a gorgeous five-tier wedding cake made with marble cake with latte cream cheese and carrot cake with cream cheese. Additionally, we made huge spread of desserts including Presidential Pecan Diamonds, Dad’s Crumb Pies, Chocolate Dimples, and Jessie’s favorite, Lemon Bars!
